Project Overview:

Bechtel is among the most respected engineering, project management, and construction companies in the world. Bechtel operates through four global business units that specialize in energy, infrastructure, mining, and metals and nuclear, security and environmental. Today, our colleague's team with customers, partners, and suppliers on diverse projects in nearly 40 countries. The Infrastructure Global Business Unit (GBU) is executing site civil and marine scopes of work associated with our scopes of work on the Energy GBU LNG projects. The candidate will serve as the Site Piling Superintendent on the Rio Grande LNG project. The work location is Brownsville, TX. #LI-SP1

Job Summary:

The Marine Civil and Structures Superintendent directs craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned. Is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the applicable discipline. Supervises and directs craft, craft supervisors and others including Subcontractors, as assigned. Reports to Area Superintendent for daily scheduled work priorities, coordination between other disciplines and assigned specific tasks. Supervises the development of budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates action to assure program/project objectives and schedules are met and work is performed safely within schedule, budget and according to specifications. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets. Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions. Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of a high-performance project team. Has overall responsibility for scope execution, ensuring that Project is delivered within contract requirements, standards of quality and safety and to Customer and Bechtel performance expectations. Experienced in civil and structural work including reinforced concrete activities, as well as marine works including managing barges, cranes and lifting equipment, and working near and over the water.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare equipment maintenance schedules.

  • Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Field Engineering/Supply Chain to obtain these materials.

  • Oversees the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.

Safety & Quality:

  • Provide leadership for safety, environmental and fire prevention on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures, leading tool box talks and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.

  • Leads site safety inspections and audits; identifies good practice and areas for improvement; logs, tracks and closes out any non-conformances found in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate safety training for craft and always enforces safe work practices in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.

  • Assure all rigging is done in accordance with site procedures and executed safely.

  • Champions the ZERO Accident Philosophy.

  • Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied within assigned area of responsibility.

  • Produces safe systems of work, means and methods, risk assessments and job hazard analysis for all the work under their control. Works with the safety department to achieve approval of the documents, ensures all craft are educated and trained in the contents of the documents and leads the FLHA briefings.

Technical

  • Develop and work plans and activities. Implements procedures to ensure construction operations are continuously adhering to engineering designs, specifications, quality standards, schedules and budget.

  • Responsible for the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned discipline operations

  • Coordinates field activities with other disciplines.

  • Provide input to Field Engineering for quantity tracking application and report weekly installed quantities.

  • Interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.

  • Review subcontractor workforce plans and work accomplished by each craft.

  • Review and approve major subcontractor equipment mobilization and demobilization.

  • Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a superintendent or other senior site role responsible for leading and managing a multidiscipline work force.

  • Experience in Piledriving and familiarity with Marine Construction.

  • Direct hire construction experience on large scale project.

  • Have working knowledge of structural construction operations.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.

  • Must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

  • Must be familiar with current industry quality standards.

  • Basic ability to utilize the TeamWorks automation suite as the Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).

  • Basic knowledge of Unifier for reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Documents (FCDs), and Non Conformance/Compliance Reports (NCRs) between project sites, contractors, clients, and home office.

  • Basic knowledge of work packaging and the ability to utilize project software to support work activities.
