Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and special studies for process safety design for large projects. You will lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of components and processes used in process safety for projects with unique requirements. Your coordination will ensure that complex technical issues are resolved, clients are satisfied, and project needs are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts independent Process Safety work, utilizing judgment in evaluating, selecting, applying, and adapting Process Safety engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for medium-sized projects or assignments in support of a global business unit.

  • Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of process safety components and processes using relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).

  • Oversees the preparation of hazardous area classifications, fire escape routes, and safety sign layouts.

  • Supports or develops hazard classification specifications for both chemical and electrical hazards.

  • Reviews studies performed by third-party contractors in support of safety case reports for major hazard facilities.

  • Develops conceptual designs for Process Safety engineering projects or projects with specialized or unique requirements.

  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget, supporting implementation and assisting with performance reporting.

  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.

  • Mentors Process Safety engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development and contributes to special technical educational and training programs as directed.

  • Conducts and reviews analyses of fire water networks and designs fire water systems, including determining fire water demand, preparing P&IDs, layouts, and data sheets.

  • Leads the preparation of fire and gas detection layouts and cause and effect charts.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 13 years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive experience in executing Process Safety Engineering tasks for at least three medium to large ($100 500 million) EPC projects.

  • Proficient in the semiconductor industry or similar sectors, particularly in handling industrial chemicals and specialty gases.

  • Skilled in supporting or developing hazard classification specifications for both chemical and electrical hazards.

  • Specialist knowledge in at least one relevant area, with significant operational plant experience in Process Safety or Loss Prevention.

  • Deep understanding of technical theory, engineering principles, and best practices, and their application in design execution.

  • Thorough familiarity with major regulations and industry codes and standards (US and European safety regulations, including NFPA, API, IP, and IEC).

  • Proven experience in reviewing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs).

  • Competent in working within or coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and discipline-specific software programs.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including effective presentation abilities.
