The Mechanical Engineer will supervise the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers and drafters and is responsible for planning and coordinating the team while balancing commercial, technical, risk, cost and schedule issues. Will report day to day to the Project Engineering Manager and functionally to the Chief Mechanical Engineer.
Safety Responsible for personal safety and safe working practices for the Project. Understand and follow Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) procedures and contribute to safety in design work processes.
Quality Assurance Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the project.
Lead the discipline project team through the design of the mechanical aspects of materials handling and mineral processing plants and associated infrastructure.
Develop the mechanical design criteria for the project.
Manage the development of specifications and data sheets for the project.
Perform work using the Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
Supervise the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers and drafters.
Manage the preparation of material requisitions and technical bid evaluations for mechanical equipment.
Control and manage the mechanical quantities on the project.
Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of cost estimates and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
Control and manage the mechanical engineering progress for the project.
Control and manage design changes in the group and report to supervisors utilizing the trend program.
Estimate staffing needs, schedules and assign work to meet schedule dates.
Coordinate assigned engineering work with other project groups and client representatives both in home and execution offices.
Participate in model reviews at set project milestones and ensure any action items are fully closed.
Coordinate engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
Prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
Review and check work of subordinate engineers.
Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related scientific discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of seven years relevant experience.
Familiar with Standard Engineering procedures, discipline work processes, instructions, standards, specifications, best practices and anxious to learn Bechtel work processes, procedures, instructions, and standards for future growth.
Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
Operational mining industry experience would be highly regarded.
Previous experience working in a multidiscipline team ideally on a major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management project is preferred.
Must be familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design.
Basic knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
Proven experience in a supervisory role is required.
