Plans and conducts independent work within the Oil, Gas, and Chemicals global business unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to solving problems.
Performs most assignments independently with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance from Engineering Specialists or Supervisors on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed project plans. C. Contacts
Independently contacts vendor’s representatives and project field personnel to gather or give information. Contacts client counterparts as directed. Essential Job Duties
Responsible Engineer that develops, coordinates, and conducts reviews of engineering work outlined herein according to a set engineering design criteria utilizing approved engineering procedures and practices.
Coordinates the detailed design development of the process system unit(s) with other engineering disciplines while managing workload and meeting schedule due dates.
Strictly follows the Management of Change procedure to ensure the integrity of the HAZOP.
Responsible for the following deliverables:
Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)
Line Designation Tables development line lists with process and mechanical design conditions captured
Hydraulics calculations for pumps, compressors, blowers, control valves, and line sizing
Design Pressure and Temperature Diagrams development analyzing and determining piping systems design conditions
Technical Lists development scoping documents such as equipment list, PSV list, Specialty Items list
Develop specifications for Piping Specialty Items and Relief Valves - define a set of conditions for vendors to use to design engineered items
Perform engineering calculations in specialized engineering hydraulic programs such as Flarenet, Pipeflo, PIPENET, AFT Fathom, VMGSim, etc.
HAZOP execution actively participate in the Hazard and Operability review of responsible process systems and resolve HAZOP actions assigned.
Familiarity with 3D model software such as SmartPlant Review or PDSView in order to review the physical design of a plant and/or drive the client attended model review.
3D Model Review execution organizing and leading a review of the physical design of process systems
Vendor Print Review execution commenting on deviations from a set of technical design criteria provided to a vendor
Provides technical support to resolve field initiated questions.

Thorough knowledge of process systems engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
Understands the application of Engineering Department Procedures, relevant Bechtel design guides. Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards such as API, ASME, AWWA, NFPA, etc. and design criteria pertinent to the discipline.
Skill in oral and written communication.
The above is normally acquired through:
A recognized degree in chemical or mechanical engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, OR
A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board, OR
Practical work experience in design engineering or relevant equivalent experience in allied types of engineering sufficient to demonstrate competence as a trained engineer. Preferred Industry Experience
Acid Gas Removal (UOP, BASF, Huntsman Technologies)
Natural Gas Liquids Separation (Heavies removal)
LNG (APCI and other MR, CoP, Chart Technologies)
Nitrogen Rejection Unit (NRU)
