Job Summary:

In this role, you will handle project labor relations activities, leading complex employee relations investigations, and resolving employee disputes including work stoppages. You will interpret contracts, enforce work rules, and participate in negotiations. Your work will facilitate positive labor relations on the construction project, minimizing problems that may lead to work stoppages and schedule delays. #LI-AM3

Major Responsibilities:

  • Interprets and administers applicable labor union contracts and enforces work rules. Keeps abreast of labor laws and related legislation applicable to construction labor union employees (LR)

  • Along with the jobsite Safety representative, responsible for field implementation of Environmental, Safety and Health programs as they pertain to craft personnel

  • Works with subcontractor representatives performing work on the construction project to ensure labor contracts are interpreted correctly and work rules are enforced uniformly (LR)

  • Analyzes immediate and/or anticipated labor problems, decides on and implements corrective actions to prevent work stoppages and construction schedule delays, and implements craft process improvement programs at the jobsite level

  • Analyzes jurisdictional work assignments based on local precedents and practices (LR)

  • Conducts and/or provides guidance in conducting informal and formal grievance hearings in accordance with applicable labor union contract procedures (LR)

  • Interfaces with craft workforce, construction leadership, client, and general public

  • Coordinates the project in LR/IR/WFS activities including employee investigations, reprimands, terminations, data entry in Craft Human Resource Information System (CHRIS), communications, and training/coaching, and ensures the activities conform to company and site policies/procedures and legal requirements

  • Produces various written project and LR/IR/WFS communications

  • Performs investigations regarding employee misconduct or other ER issues, and recommends appropriate disciplinary or corrective actions according to the work rules

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to produce high quality work product with limited information and direction

  • Be able to prioritize a busy workload based on project needs

  • Possess a "can-do" and "whatever it takes" attitude to support the team and Project.

  • Demonstrated experience in using informational dashboards such as Bechtel Power-BI application for tracking professional craft attendance, attrition, discipline, demographics, requisition status, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience working within project labor steering committees with multiple GCs and customer management.

  • Demonstrated experience working under a Project Labor Agreement, (PLA) or National Maintenance Agreement (NMA)

  • Experience working with Building Trade Unions an asset
