Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
UPF will be will be built by 2025 for $6.5 billion and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.
UPF Construction works on a 4-10 schedule. Start times are Monday - Thursday from 7:00 to 5:30 pm. The UPF Construction project works on various schedules with differing start times pending project needs.
Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Assigned to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) Construction organization in a Construction Civil Filed Engineering position. Responsibilities are to ensure assigned UPF Civil based commodities are in compliance with design/specifications, nuclear codes and standards including AISC 303 & AISC 360, schedule, within budget and to quality standards. Perform construction engineering assignments of a varied nature requiring a working knowledge of construction engineering practices. Principle responsibilities include:
Assists construction supervision in planning construction methods and procedures. Coordinates engineering or construction problems with superintendents.
Interprets design engineering drawings and prepares construction working drawings for the use of superintendents as required, including:
Temporary construction facilities.
Field sketches of revisions and additions and preparing "as built" drawings.
Reviews design drawings, study Interference problems and reviewing related vendor drawings and installation instructions.
Prepares or directs preparation of field bulk material purchase requisitions, including estimating the quantities and material takeoffs of the field purchases of materials. Track commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database programs as required.
Assists in coordination of vendor material deliveries, storage of materials, expediting and engineering reports related to the schedule.
Prepares projections and schedules for manpower, material and equipment requirements.
Prepares field change notices, extra work orders and back charge notices.
Prepares assigned Project Controls programs. Reviews project controls documents on progress. Assures the project controls programs are fully automated for use in the field.
Prepares cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bills of materials to ensure their completeness.
Maintains records of costs and quantity information, evaluates data, prepares applicable reports as requested by project management utilizing established, standardized automation tools
Monitors the activities of subcontractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
Administers change notices and amendments audits contractor requests for progress payments.
Maintains updated subcontractor schedules, as assigned.
May be required to provide input on employee reviews of assigned subordinate personnel.
Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings and specifications.
B.S. Degree in Engineering or similar and 1-3 years of experience or 7-9 years related experience in lieu of degree

Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 60 lbs.
Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is required.
Must have working knowledge of the Bechtel Standard Work Processes Procedures (SWPPs) and the related Bechtel Standard application Programs (BSAPs).
Candidates should be self-starters, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment.
The candidate should have a good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASME, as well as NQA-1 requirements.
Knowledge of environmental compliance standards required on NNSA/DOE projects.
Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program.
Familiarity with nuclear quality and commercial practice standards is desired.
Recent experience erecting heavy structural steel, multi commodity pipe racks/modules and installing structural steel modules at a Major EPC project
Prior experience in supporting the sequencing, scheduling and managing the erection of structural steel modules and pre-assemblies at multiple work fronts
Prior experience supporting heavy rigging activities on nuclear projects
