Job Summary:

As Senior Structural Engineer, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s civil/structural aspects.

You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes.

Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, building, roadways, railroads, etc.

  • Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs)​.

  • Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.

  • Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.

  • Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.

  • Other responsibilities as designated.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated, solid experience in structural engineering.

  • Experience in the mining and metals industry including design of process plants, materials handling systems and/or non-process infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated technical capabilities in front end engineering studies preferred.

  • In depth knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, guides & procedures and codes relevant to civil discipline.

Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
