Position Duties/Responsibilities

Lead the Reston team of Geographic Information System (GIS) specialists to support Bechtel projects in the United States and overseas

  • Identify and define GIS related problems, devise technical approaches and methodologies to solve these problems, prepare scope of work, budget and schedule for execution of the required tasks.

  • Manage the Re1ston-based GIS professionals to execute GIS support for Bechtel projects. Ensure Bechtel projects have access to the following support: cartography; vector and raster analysis; coordinate definition and projection; spatial data collection, cleansing, transformation, management and dissemination; and, process automation.

  • Be responsible for the Reston GIS team task allocation and the team’s quality of work. Monitor adherence to project GIS budget allocation.

  • Identify and report GIS budget requirements for hardware, software and personal development. Identification skills gaps and the training required to fill these gaps.

  • Establish strong working relationships with other disciplines and coordinate work activities with other technical specialists and engineers.

  • Provide field support as needed. Attend site visits and meetings with project personnel and client (in the U.S. and overseas).

The successful candidate will report to the GIS Manager but must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment on problem definition, scoping, selection of design criteria, adoption and adaption of appropriate GIS techniques. This role will provide the Reston GIS customer front end, working directly with other G&HES GBU leads, functional EGS, and, project leads.

Assignments can include additional aspects of civil and environmental hydraulics and hydrology analyses to support project development and execution in other Bechtel offices worldwide.

The position may require domestic and international traveling, and could require temporary assignments to field projects or other Bechtel offices

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the area of geography, computer science, engineering or related field, with at least 10 years of experience working in a GIS role, or, GISP certification if degree in other than Geography/GIS.

  • Legal right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Experience with the following software: ArcGIS suite (mandatory); GlobalMapper; FME; Geographic Calculator; MicroStation, AutoCAD, Python.

  • Strong verbal and written skills to communicate with team in preparation of reports, memo, calculations and other documentations.

  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database software.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to and remain at jobsites for up to several weeks at a time
