Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead the team responsible for identifying, evaluating, and analyzing risk inherent to project and company operations. You will manage daily risk management activities, insurance program purchasing, claims strategy, and provide guidance on risk allocation issues. Your analysis of trends and areas of concern will drive application of best practices and lessons learned to minimize execution risk.

This role is approved for Part-Time Telework (3+ days in the office) and selected candidate must work out of the London, Houston or Reston office.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company's operational and strategic risk.

  • Monitors and analyzes risks within the company’s global business units. Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and growing relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Deep knowledge of the insurance industry and current state of market trends in pricing and terms and conditions.

  • Oversees risk management tools, practices, and policies and manages them according to the company’s risk appetite.

  • Ensures the organization’s risk management policies and strategies follow applicable regulations and strategic imperatives of the organization.

  • Ensures the Company is informed of the full cost of risk to its business and is utilizing progressive risk financing tools (e.g., Captive) to its best advantage.

  • Oversees department budgets for worldwide insurance premium spend, and Vermont Captive’s use and profitability.

  • Participates in external organizations and speaking engagements representing Bechtel risk management and is considered to be a subject matter expert in at least one class of insurance.

  • Builds and develops Bechtel’s relationship with insurers.

  • Provides direction to senior managers in various areas, groups and/or operations.

  • Regularly interacts and partners with executives and/or major customers.

  • Oversees development and training of both department personnel and the organization as a whole.

  • Manages dedicated insurance brokerage teams to optimize service to Company

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or JD preferably in Risk Management or relevant area from an accredited college/university.

  • Minimum of 22+ years of relevant work experience (Master’s) or 26+ years of work experience (Bachelor’s)

  • Global Risk Management experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years of management experience

  • Prefer applicable risk control certifications (e.g., ISO31000 Enterprise Risk Management, Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional, Certified Enterprise Risk Manager, Enterprise Risk Management Certified Professional, Professional Risk Manager Designation, RIMS Certified Risk Management Professional, etc.)

  • Prefer experience and expertise in the relevant insurance lines critical to the engineering & construction industry

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • High level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance

  • Ability to motivate staff with significant risk and insurance experience

  • Ability to align risk management with overall Company culture and risk appetite

  • Demonstrated track record of developing and implementing risk management strategies and controls

  • Recognized risk leader who is dynamic, proactive, and decisive

  • Adapts well to and initiates change

  • Seeks ways to optimize risk financing in the organization as a competitive business advantage

  • Highly developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills

  • Team player, change agent, strategic, and creative with exceptional project management skills
