Project Overview:

Bechtel and Deloitte (Submarine Workforce Industrial Base (SWIB) prime contractor) are partnering with the US Navy on a one-of-a-kind opportunity to streamline and optimize the submarine construction and maintenance. New submarine construction is critical to the Navy and Nation and ship building plans call for greater production (by tonnage) than at any point since World War II. To meet this demand, the Navy is working with industry and shipbuilders to support capital investments required to provide shipbuilding and repairs facilities optimization to achieve the 1 Columbia Class and 2 Virgina Class submarines per year rate while sustaining the existing fleet.

This project spans several supporting activities and sub-objectives, in close coordination with the prime, NAVSEA 04, submarine shipyards. Below are activities and objectives that are the focus of this project:

  • National strategic functional dry dock plan across all shipyards.

  • Near term and long-term critical equipment modernization lifecycles.

  • Strategies to accelerate current shipbuilding facility expansion.

  • Shipbuilding facility layout changes to optimize production and decrease shipbuilding and maintenance timelines.

  • Assist shipbuilders in determining methodologies for reducing inventory space requirements.

This position is full-time tele-work and require travel of 25-30% of the year, for site visits to the various shipyards and in-office visits to Reston, VA. Position is contingent upon project award and funding.

This position will bring supply chain, and logistics experience and expertise to the project and involved in developing the assessment “toolbox” for the project tasks at each facility. Lead transportation and logistics portion and participate in assessments and development of strategies and recommendations.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will support multiple projects by performing technical or commercial logistics work. You will be responsible for domestic and international multi-leg shipments with both internal and external entities, ensuring safe, timely, and economical delivery of goods to meet project requirements. Your work will help ensure project requirements are satisfied in accordance with policies and procedures. #LI-SF1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs domestic and international multi-leg shipment responsibilities in support of project requirements to ensure the safe, timely, and economical delivery of goods to meet project requirements

  • Prepares logistics reports or performance metrics as required to satisfy project information requirements

  • Identifies transport cost and service alternatives to support materials/equipment purchase decisions and use of Logistics Service Providers

  • Prepares Logistics Service Provider commercial bid tabs, commitment authorizations and contract documents

  • Prepares logistics studies including site and Logistics Service Provider facility visits

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Reports to and receives operational direction from the Equipment Roadmap Lead and/or the Inventory Optimization Lead.

  • May provide supervision, training, and guidance to other project personnel.

  • Maintains working relationships with project, Navy client and shipyard personnel to perform assigned duties. Maintains contacts with global business unit personnel, including functional supervisors, to maintain an awareness of performance and operating business unit problems.

  • Performs multi-leg shipment studies and plans in support of project requirements to ensure the safe, timely, and economical delivery of goods.

  • Assists in preparation of Logistics reports and analysis of shipyard performance metrics.

  • Assists in identifying transport cost and service alternatives to support materials/equipment purchase decisions and use of Logistics service providers.

  • Assists with preparation of logistics routes studies including site and Logistics service provider facility visits.
