Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Position Summary

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will support the development of Mechanical systems and equipment for the AP1000 project by preparing studies, piping and instrumentation diagrams, calculations, engineering specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, performing technical bid evaluations, and more in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. This position will require working with other functions and disciplines in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate within the mechanical group and other disciplines/functions independently in developing system designs.

  • Resolve technical issues related to the discipline independently including any required interface with other disciplines, functions, vendors, and/or client.

  • Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.

  • Support development of project cost and schedule estimates.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Level I - BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college with six (6) years of progressive related experience, or in lieu of degree, twelve (12) years of progressive related experience.

  • Level II - BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college with nine (9) years of progressive related experience, or in lieu of degree, fifteen (15) years of progressive related experience.

  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

  • Must be authorized to live and work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.

  • Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.

  • Extensive knowledge and application of ANSI/ASME Codes and Standards including ASME B31.1 or B31.3.

  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.

  • Experience in power (nuclear) plant design.

  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.

  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.

  • U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering (or ability to obtain)
