Bechtel is seeking a Senior Rail Track Alignment Engineer located in Reston, VA, The Senior Rail Track Alignment Engineer will provide engineering support to a team of professionals on a major light rail transit expansion project in Ontario, Canada. The successful candidate will perform most assignments independently with instructions as to the general results expected. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, and proven problem-solving abilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • The Senior Rail Track Engineer will be responsible for independent designs, calculations, and engineering services compliant to industry practices and standards. Design calculations to include horizontal and vertical alignments, special track work designs, project track related elements and related civil design.

  • Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.

  • Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 2-D and 3-D computer-aided design and computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools.

  • When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.

  • Assists in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provide input for their performance evaluations.

  • Prepares letters to vendors and clients & reviews bid analyses and make a recommendation.

  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.

  • Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.

  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders and reviews, checks work of subordinate engineers.

Job Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management or related field with 6-9 years of experience in design Or in lieu of Bachelor’s degree 12-15 years of relevant experience in engineering design, construction or infrastructure industry.

  • A professional license in civil engineering, from a recognized licensing board and/or ability to obtain P Eng license in Ontario within 6 months.

  • Progressive work experience in design track rail engineering.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Aconex, and BIM360.

  • Strong knowledge in engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have the authorization to work in the USA without sponsorship.
