Overview

Bechtel’s internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience. Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a student intern.

Mechanical Engineering Interns work in multidisciplinary teams and provide support to the most visible aspects of a project – plant equipment. 

  

The total number of interns and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions. Locations will vary based on project needs, and may include Houston, TX or Reston, VA, along with various project sites.

General Job Duties:

Mechanical Engineering Interns may be responsible for:

selecting and specifying equipment; 

preparing flow or detailed system piping and instrumentation diagrams; 

performing system and equipment sizing calculations; 

establishing facility design requirements and develop the system safety basis; 

reviewing supplier designs; 

preparing ventilation and instrumentation diagrams; and 

performing corrosion and erosion evaluations for systems and equipment. 

  

Basic Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering at an accredited college or university.

Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in one of the above fields.

Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites. 

Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering at an accredited college or university.

Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA. 

Prior co-op or internship experience. 

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
