Job Overview:

The Process Engineering Group Supervisor (EGS) will supervise the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers and drafters and is responsible for planning and coordinating the team while balancing commercial, technical, risk, cost and schedule issues. The EGS will report day to day to the Project Engineering Manager and functionally to the Chief Process Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Responsible for personal safety and safe working practices for the Project. Understand and follow Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) procedures and contribute to safety in design work processes.

  • Quality Assurance Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the Project.

  • Lead the process design of the concentrator

  • Lead the discipline project team through the design of infrastructure and supporting site services for Mineral Processing Plants including utility systems such as compressed air, lubrication and site water facilities such as potable water, sewerage treatment and riparian water management systems.

  • Develop process design criteria, water balances, process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams, facility descriptions, hazard studies and supporting design calculations from feasibility studies through to detail design.

  • Develop operating philosophy for the concentrator or beneficiation plant

  • Supervise the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers and drafters.

  • Draw upon industry benchmarking in relation to development of tradeoff studies

  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of cost estimates and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.

  • Control and manage design changes in the group and report to supervisors utilizing the trend program.

  • Estimate staffing needs, schedules and assign work to meet schedule dates.

  • Coordinate assigned engineering work with other project groups and client representatives both in home and execution offices.

  • Participate in model reviews at set project milestones and ensure any action items are fully closed.

  • Coordinate engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.

  • Prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.

  • Review and check work of subordinate engineers.

  • Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Minerals Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy or a related scientific discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of nine years relevant experience.

  • Familiar with Standard Engineering procedures, discipline work processes, instructions, standards, specifications, best practices and anxious to learn Bechtel work processes, procedures, instructions, and standards for future growth.

  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.

  • Experience in the development of process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances and piping and instrument diagrams, and in sizing and specification of equipment for minerals processing and utilities applications.

  • A sound understanding of site services and production activities.

  • A minimum of five years operational mining industry experience would be highly regarded.

  • Previous experience working in a multidiscipline team ideally on a major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management project is preferred.

  • Must be familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design.

  • Basic knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.

  • Willingness to travel to remote project sites

Supervisory Experience

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role is required.

  • Good planning, scheduling and man hour control skills.
