Job Overview:

This position is for a Terminal Design and Requirements Manager who will oversee terminal building designs and requirements for the delivery of the Western Sydney Airport terminal. The Terminal Design and Requirements Manager is responsible for coordinating the terminal design scope and integration of work assigned to subcontracted design entities. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, and the desire to innovate designs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of the architectural work of the terminal.

  • Plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of architectural techniques, procedures and criteria to the buildings that are part of the terminal.

  • Coordinate design development with other departments which may include construction, estimating, project controls, procurement, and contracts management.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with project budgets, schedules, quantities and quality requirements.

  • As directed, supervise, coordinate and provide technical direction and assign work to architects, designers, and engineers.

  • Coordinate and integrate design work between the architectural discipline, engineering disciplines and other design entities.

  • Interface with clients and stakeholders to make presentations, define project requirements, and obtain contractual and statutory approvals.

  • Resolve any technical issues with construction and travel to the project's site to assist as required.

  • Support the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and job satisfaction.

Job Knowledge:

  • 15 to 20 years’ experience working on design and design management of large public buildings.

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience working on Airport or other public transportation terminals.

  • Must be conversant in common tools used to manage large, complex, multi-disciplinary designs.

  • Understands technical issues and cost related to selection of design features and unique architectural requirements.

  • Broad knowledge of the construction industry, regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to aviation buildings.

  • Has experience with engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, open-minded with an energetic and proactive personal style.

  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions.

  • Knowledge of sustainability and its integration into the design and the construction of aviation buildings.

  • Must be able to work in high-pressure environments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A recognized degree in architecture, engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, AND

  • A professional license in an engineering discipline, or a license to practice architecture from a recognized licensing board is preferred.

  • Practical work experience sufficient to demonstrate competence and breadth in architectural design.

  • Experience in customer-facing roles and presenting to customers.
